Penn Commuter Options for Faculty and Staff

Penn encourages the use of public transportation. To assist commuters who choose to use public transportation, Penn offers discounted options and/or pretax benefits through these programs: the Commuter Pass Program (COMPASS), TransitChek®, PATCO Freedom Pass and N.J. Transit. All programs are available to full-time University faculty and staff who are not participating in the parking permit program.

SEPTA COMPASS

Penn has negotiated an agreement with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) to provide TransPasses and TrailPasses (monthly or 10-trip tickets) at a 10% discount through payroll deduction to full-time faculty and staff. Both of these programs are pre-taxed up to $255 per month. Click here for price list. For SEPTA passes or 10-trip tickets, or to make changes to your commuter benefits, click here.

TransitChek®

Only SEPTA tokens and Amtrak passes still require transit checks. Your other Transit purchases can now be made directly through the online ordering system. TransitChek® vouchers look like a personal check with a pre-printed amount. They come in denominations of $15, $30, $35, and $65. Up to $255 worth of TransitCheks® may be purchased through payroll deduction on a pre-tax basis, which also includes a Penn 5% subsidy. The following regional transit providers participate in the TransitChek® program: SEPTA, DART, NJ Transit, Amtrak and PATCO. To order TransitChek® vouchers, click here.
