Notice of change in Penn Parking Policy

We would like to make you aware of a policy change that will affect all permit parkers. Over the years we have received feedback that encouraged us to explore mechanisms other than towing to serve as a means of enforcing Penn’s parking policies. In response, we are now issuing tickets to vehicles as an intermediate means of addressing instances of policy non-compliance.

Two new sustainable parking initiatives launch April 9

In support of Penn’s Climate Action Plan, Parking Services is launching two programs to decrease the number of vehicles parking on campus:Occasional Parking and Carpool.

Feedback from our commuters has indicated that one of the barriers to taking public transportation is the need to have a car available in specific incidences – such as evening meetings or unplanned schedule changes.  Occasional Parking gives commuters additional flexibility as they can drive when necessary and park at a reduced rate.  Click here for more information.

Current Penn Parking permit patrons can take advantage of discounted parking by teaming up to form a Carpool with other permit holders. Click here for more information.

Pre-Tax Decrease for Penn’s SEPTA Commuter Choice Program/COMPASS

Please note for commuter riders who utilize Penn’s pre-tax payroll deduction, the Federal Stimulus package known as American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) will be expiring December 31, 2011.

The ARRA program had temporarily increased the monthly pre-tax payroll deduction cap for transit benefits to $230/month. With the expiration of this Congressional Act, the pre-tax withholding limit will be reduced to $125/month. Commuters who regularly purchase passes for public transportation through payroll deduction will see a decrease in the pre-tax limit for transit purchases.

Penn Parking Services welcomes new Associate Director, Brian Manthe

Business Services welcomes Brian Manthe as the new associate director of operations.  Mr. Manthe will oversee the operations and management of Penn Parking and the Penn Ice Rink, including the coordination of special events, capital projects and maintenance.

Updates to Penn's Sustainable Transportation Initiative

Last year, the Sustainable Transportation Initiative was launched in support of the University’s Climate Action Plan’s goal of lowering Penn’s carbon footprint. Although the focus of the Initiative is developing and expanding sustainable commuting options, the effort strives to support the needs of all members of the Penn Community – no matter how they get to campus.

Penn announces new vanpool program

As part of Penn’s Sustainable Transportation Initiative, Penn Transportation and Parking has joined with VPSI, a national leader in vanpooling and sustainable transportation, to expand vanpooling options to Penn faculty and staff.
