How do students engage in this new Green2Go Program?

  • All students on a Dining Plan are automatically enrolled
  • To engage in the program, dining plan participants will receive your Key2Green keytag in your mailbox sometime during the week of Sept. 8. along with a complimentary set of reusable utensils
  • When you decide you’d like to get a to-go meal from one of the participating locations (see below), ENTER the facility, present your Key2Green keytag to the cashier and they will give you a Green2Go eco-clamshell in exchange for your keytag.
  • Take 15 minutes to fill your container – and ENJOY your meal.
  • Once you have finished your meal, please RINSE the container, and return it to any participating location in EXCHANGE for another Key2Green keytag – which you will keep until you are ready for your next to-go meal.
  • The process then repeats itself.

Why do we have this program?

  • Each year, over 171,000 disposable clamshells make their way into the waste stream at Penn.  Bon Appetit, Penn Dining, and the Green Campus Partnership have set an aggressive goal to cut that number by 2/3 with this new program.
  • Waste minimization is part of Penn’s Climate Action Plan.
  • This Green2Go program makes Penn Dining that much greener by helping to decrease the volume of waste currently finding its way to our landfills by reducing the usage of disposable containers.

What if I don’t want to participate in the program?

  • Participation is not mandatory, but highly encouraged.
  • If a student chooses not to participate in the program, each to-go meal will cost $2.00 payable by Dining Dollar$, SFS, Cash, Debit or Credit Card.

What happens if I lose my Green2Go container or it gets damaged?

  • Your first Green2Go container is provided free of charge due to a grant provided by the Penn Green fund.  Should you lose your container, a new one can be purchased for $7.00 payable by Dining Dollar$, SFS, Cash, Debit or Credit Card.
  • Penn Dining understands that a normal amount of wear and tear is expected to occur.  However, should it be determined that intentional damage was inflicted, a charge of $7 will apply for the next Green2Go container payable by Dining Dollar$, SFS, Cash, Debit or Credit Card.

What about utensils?

  • All students on a Dining Plan will be provided a set of reusable utensils at the beginning of the Academic Year. We also provide disposable utensils for your take-out needs, but highly encourage students/faculty/staff to invest in a set of reusable cutlery for their room/office due to the sustainable nature of the program.

Can I just wash the container myself and reuse the same one?

  • All containers need to be rinsed after use, but in order to assure “healthy conditions”, freshly sanitized Green2Go containers will be provided for each visit.

  • We take responsibility for cleaning all containers to ensure proper sanitization.
