In-Room Summer Storage

Graduate student residents returning to their same room for 2020-2021, but leaving for the summer, can leave their belongings in their room. No need to pack everything up and move it all back in!

Who is eligible for Sansom Storage?

  • You must be living in a Single-1BR/shared bath, Single-1BR/LR/KIT apartment, or Grad Plus apartment and retaining your room for the next academic year.
  • Students living in a Double-2BR/KIT apartment may participate if both residents are retaining their room for next year and vacating their room during the summer.
  • You must move out by Tuesday, June 30 at noon. In-room summer storage for graduate students in Sansom East is for the months of June, July, and August only. Sansom Storage is not available for residents with move-out extensions.

How do I sign up?

  • First, complete your housing application at MyHomeAtPenn and request to retain your room assignment.
  • Once you have received your housing assignment, download and sign the Sansom Storage contract (coming soon!). Keep a copy for your records. Return the contract to Residential Services, located in Stouffer Commons at 3702 Spruce Street, by the last day of classes.
  • Once your Sansom Storage contract is processed, the $150 Sansom Storage fee will be added to your student bill.

What are my responsibilities?

  • All valuables such as computers and electronics must be removed.
  • Belongings remaining in the room must be moved away from the walls and corners.
  • The refrigerator must be emptied; perishable foods must be removed from all spaces.
  • The room must be clean and orderly.
  • If you are living in a Single-1BR/Shared bath unit, you must remove all belongings from the bathroom.
  • Residents are strongly encouraged to have rental insurance for their belongings.
  • You must schedule an inspection with the Sr. Residential Services Manager that must occur near the date of move-out.
  • When you leave campus, you must stop by the Sansom East information center to officially check out of your room for the summer and return your key.

What happens over the summer?

  • Once you check out, you cannot have access to your apartment/room; the locks on the door will be changed to a special core for the summer.
  • You will be responsible for the full storage charge once the lock core has been changed on your room.
  • Cleaning will not take place in the unit, but any scheduled maintenance will (examples include air filter replacement and pest management).
  • If you cancel your room for the fall during the time your belongings are in storage, you will have one week to remove your belongings and you will be charged the appropriate cancellation fee. There will be no proration made for the storage fee.

What happens when I return?

  • Fall move-in is Saturday, August 29, 2020.
  • Early move-in begins Sunday, August 23, 2020. If you move in between August 23 and August 28, you will be charged prorated daily rent for the additional nights in your room.
  • Any approved early arrivals prior to August 23, 2020 will incur an additional $200 fee in order that the room lock can be changed ahead of the scheduled date. This is in addition to your prorated daily rent for the additional nights in your room prior to August 29.
