Graduate Students

Philadelphia is a diverse city of vibrant neighborhoods offering a wide array of housing options for students.  The first choice Penn students make is whether to live on-campus in University housing or to live within the larger community.  Residential Services and Off-Campus Services strive to provide information and assistance to support either decision.

On-Campus Housing

Sansom Place, Penn's two on-campus high-rise apartment buildings, is conveniently located with close proximity to all campus facilities.  Living on-campus affords students many opportunities to become engaged in a close-knit, student-focused community.  The diversity of residents, including many international students, creates an active and stimulating environment.  Living on-campus has many advantages:

  • Easy, online application process
  • Academic-year lease options, with summer housing available
  • Furnished rooms and apartments with all utilities included
  • 24-hour security and front desk services
  • Easy payment options - rent charges are included in the monthly billing statement sent by Student Registration and Financial Services

Off-Campus Housing

Living off-campus affords students the opportunity to become integrated into a local community outside of Penn. There are many housing options to choose from and students should begin their search early to find one that meets their budget and lifestyle. Off-Campus Services provides a number of resources to help graduate students locate appropriate off-campus housing:

  • Online, interactive property listing database
  • Roommate search module
  • Tips on evaluating a property
  • Individualized counseling
  • Neighborhood profile videos
