WARNING TO ADMINISTRATORS: DO NOT CUT-AND-PASTE ON THIS PAGE!

All staff members of the University of Pennsylvania are eligible to have a PennCard.  Staff members whose appointments are processed through Human Resources do not need to show evidence of their status as University employees to obtain a PennCard.

There is no charge for your initial PennCard if you are paid directly by the University. There is a $30 fee for all others (i.e. temporary staff).

Full-time Staff

Staff members of the University of Pennsylvania are eligible to have a PennCard. Please use the following procedure to obtain your staff PennCard:

  • Make sure your Hiring Officer or Payroll Administrator has entered your complete payroll record into the Payroll/Personnel System (Personal Data, Job Data, and Payroll Distribution Information) at least one University business day prior to coming to the PennCard Center.
  • Bring a valid, government issued photo I.D. to the PennCard Center.
  • You will then be issued a PennCard good for 5 years.
  • There is no charge for your initial PennCard.

 

Temporary Staff

Temporary staff members of the University of Pennsylvania are eligible to have a PennCard. Please use the following procedure to obtain your temporary staff PennCard:

  • Make sure your Hiring Officer or Payroll Administrator has entered your complete payroll record into the Payroll/Personnel System (Personal Data, Job Data, and Payroll Distribution Information) at least one University business day prior to coming to the PennCard Center.
  • Bring a completed PennCard Request Form along with a valid government issued photo I.D. to the PennCard Center.
  • You will then be issued a PennCard good until the date specified on the PennCard Request Form (not to exceed 1 year).
  • There is a $25 fee for the card ($30 as of Aug. 1, 2014) and this charge may be paid by the cardholder by cash, check, Visa or Master Card, or the PennCard Center will bill the cardholder's department as long as the proper 26-digit budget code is entered on the PennCard Request Form.

 

Staff on Long-Term Disability

Staff members of the University of Pennsylvania on long-term disability are eligible to have a PennCard. Please use the following procedure to obtain your staff on LTD PennCard:

  • Wait one University business day after your department has made the appropriate changes to your payroll record.
  • Bring your current staff PennCard—or if your last card has already expired bring a government issued photo I.D.—to the PennCard Center.
  • You will then be issued a PennCard good for 5 years.
  • There is no charge for the new PennCard providing you turn in your unexpired staff PennCard.

 

Retired Staff

  • Retired staff of the University of Pennsylvania are eligible to have a PennCard. Please use the following procedure to obtain your retired staff PennCard:
  • Go the University's Division of Human Resources office and they will give you a form confirming your status as retired staff.
  • Bring this form along with your current staff PennCard (or if your last card has already expired bring some valid form of photo ID) to the PennCard Center.
  • You will then be issued a retired staff card good for 5 years.
  • There is no charge for the card providing you turn in your unexpired PennCard.
