AVI Transponders

If you ever require a replacement device, visit the Penn Transportation and Parking Office at 3401 Walnut Street, Suite 447A.  The replacement fee for an AVI box is $30.00 and an AVI hangtag is $65.  The fee can be refunded within two weeks should you locate and return your original transponder.

You may obtain an AVI transponder by visiting the Penn Transportation and Parking Office at 3401 Walnut Street, Suite 447A, Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Please be sure to bring your parking access card and Penn ID with you.

When you obtain an AVI transponder, your access card will be reprogrammed so that you can use the pedestrian doors of your garage when the doors are locked.

Yes. Permit holders have access to their facility at all times with the AVI transponder.

Parking permit holders at Chestnut 34, Penn Museum, Spruce 38 and Walnut 38 garages have the option to use an AVI transponder to enter and exit their facilities.

Users report they enter and exit the parking facility in a more expedient and convenient manner than by using a garage access card.

You will be given an AVI transponder, which is very similar to EZ Pass. To ensure optimal performance and quick and easy access and egress from the parking garage, manufacturer recommendations suggest:

1. Mounting your AVI transponder to the middle of your windshield with the Velcro strips that have been provided, or lay the device on the middle of your dashboard.  The transponder is not designed as a handheld device; and

2. Pulling right up to the gate upon entering and exiting the garage so that the signal from the transponder may be correctly read.

Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) technology enables managed access and egress control to facilities, providing a more convenient and expedient way to enter and exit a parking facility.
