Moving passengers to, from, and around campus safely and efficiently. When used with other options throughout University City and with specified service boundaries that extend into Center City, riders can utilize an integrated transit system that is accessible year round.

Penn Transit's integrated transit system provides effective, efficient and safe integrated transit on and around campus within specific service boundaries. Transit Services are free of charge to all Penn community members holding a valid PennCard. Individuals with an I.D. from the  University of the Sciences in Philadelphia can also access Penn Buses or Shuttles at no charge. Persons with Drexel I.D. can access the bus service only.

Penn Transit’s shuttles and buses can help you travel, to, from and around campus safely and efficiently.

  • Shuttles provide transportation free of charge to and from Transit Stops and West Philadelphia, Center City and Powelton Village, within defined boundaries. This service supports faculty, staff and students from Penn, the University of the Sciences and the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS). Passengers need to show their institutional ID to board the shuttles. Penn Shuttles run in the evening, seven days a week, year round except for Penn-recognized holidays.

  • Penn Bus East and Penn Bus West operate Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m., year round except for holidays observed by the University of Pennsylvania. Passengers from Penn, Drexel, University of the Sciences and the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) need only show a valid institutional ID to ride Penn Bus for free. Penn Bus will pick up and deliver passengers only at designated Transit Stops on campus, and at certain intersections with a stop sign or traffic light along its off-campus rout

PennRIDES, a service of Penn Transit, sends current information directly to your PDA, cell phone or computer. PennRIDES lets riders know:

  • Real-time information about the locations and expected arrival times of Penn Transit buses and shuttles

  • Vehicle capacity

  • Traffic alerts, such as emergency route or schedule changes

Walking Escort Service

Specially trained uniformed security officers from the Division of Public Safety are available 24 hours a day, year round. Service boundaries are shown on the Transit Map.

How To Request a Walking Escort

  • Ask any Public Safety Officer on patrol
  • Call (215) 898-WALK (9255) or 511 (from a campus phone)
  • Use one of the many building and blue-light e-phones located on and off Penn’s campus

Penn Accessible Transit (PAT)

Penn Accessible Transit (PAT) is a service of Penn Transit, which provides transportation within service boundaries for persons with disabilities.
