How do I download ArcGIS?

After your order is received, OSL enters your name on the ESRI site, and you will receive an email with login instructions.

What do I do once I have received my ArcGIS provisioning file?

  • You will receive a provisioning file.
  • Save the provisioning file to your machine.
  • Launch the Software Authorization Wizard from the ArcGIS Administrator (ArcGIS for Desktop and Engine), the License Server Administrator (License Manager), or the respective post-installer for Server products.
  • Select the option, "I have received an authorization file from Esri and am now ready to finish the authorization process."
  • Browse to the provisioning file you saved.
  • Click "Next".
  • Select "Authorize with Esri now over the Internet." Select the website or email option if your machine does not have an Internet connection.
  • Click "Next".
  • Review the pre-populated personal information and enter any additional required information. On the next panels, you will see the authorization numbers entered for the core product and any extensions, if applicable.
  • Click "Finish" to complete the authorization process.

I installed ArcGIS but Spatial Analyst isn't showing up. What should I do?

Launch "ArcMap". Go to Customize ->Extensions. Then check the extensions that you have authorized and close it

How do I obtain ArcGIS Server or ArcPad?

All ArcGIS licensed products are available through your ESRI login.

What is ArcPad and ArcPad App Builder?

ArcPad is mobile field mapping and data collection software designed for GIS users. It includes advanced GIS and GPS capabilities for capturing, editing, and displaying geographic information. ArcPad is available at no additional charge by download from your Esri login. More information can be found here.

Is there a free student version of ArcGIS?

All students enrolled in GIS classes will receive a download link to a one-year student version of ArcGIS.

Version 10.x - ArcGIS for Desktop Student Trial software Instructions

Before you install ArcGIS for Desktop

  1. Check our system requirements to make sure your computer has the hardware and software required for the trial.

Activate your authorization code

  1. Visit www.esri.com/educationedition to begin the process of activating and downloading your ArcGIS for Desktop Student Trial software.
  2. Log in using your Existing Esri account, or sign-up for a new Esri account, if necessary.
  3. Enter the authorization code and click Activate ArcGIS.

If you need to download ArcGIS for Desktop, proceed to step 4.

If you received the ArcGIS for Desktop software from your instructor or license administrator, or will be installing from a network server, proceed to step 5 in the next section.

4. Click the button for the ArcGIS for Desktop software version being activated.

 Download and install ArcGIS for Desktop Student Trial

  1. If necessary, download the ArcGIS Uninstall Utility and uninstall previous versions of ArcGIS Desktop or Server. The software cannot be installed on a computer that has a previous version of ArcGIS for Desktop or ArcGIS for Server installed. It's OK if the computer has ArcGIS Explorer installed.
  2. If necessary, install the Microsoft .NET Framework (version 3.5 Service Pack 1 or higher). 
    1. If you are unsure if you have the .NetFramework installed, you can download a .net Version detector from the following site - http://www.asoft.be/prod_netver.html.
  3. Determine the location for the ArcGIS for Desktop software you wish to install and click the Download button. You can also download the Tutorial Data, if desired.
  4. Double-click ArcGIS_Desktop_10XXXXXXX.exe (Depending on the version you selected, the file extensions may be different) to extract the installation files.
  5. Locate and run Setup.exe to install ArcGIS for Desktop. The “Complete” installation is recommended.
  6. After the files are installed, the Authorization Wizard will open and prompt you to choose a product to authorize; select “ArcGIS Desktop Advanced (Single Use)” and click continue.
  7. The Authorization Wizard will prompt you for an authorization code; enter your activated code. Follow the prompts and the software will authorize and be ready for use. Note: leave the default option for the software extensions selected; they will be authorized automatically.
