Hotels - New Cancellation Policies

New 48-hour Cancellation Terms Going Into Effect

Major hotel companies, including Marriott and Hilton, have recently announced a 48-hour cancellation policy.  Marriott's is already in effect and Hilton's becomes active on August 1, 2017.  This is in response to traveler behavior of doing multiple bookings, not necessarily knowing their final schedule.  In the end, hotels end up with empty rooms that are cancelled at the last minute.

In addition, Hilton is looking at the option of offering fully-flexible or semi-flexible pricing structures that would require cancellation within seven days to avoid penalty fees.

The traveler needs to be aware of the cancellation policy when making a reservation.  Important Note:  Some hotels often require more notice  - two to four days or even longer if the stay is related to a conference or event.
