Types of Permits

There are several different types of parking permits offered for University parking lots and facilities.


Daily Parking Permits

These permits are issued to faculty, staff and students for parking during normal business hours in assigned University parking facilities.

Evening and Weekend Parking Permits

These permits are available for purchase for two semesters or annually and they are valid on weekdays after 5 p.m. and all day on weekends. These permits are honored in any of our surface parking lots, provided space is available and vehicles are parked in legitimate striped parking spaces. Unless otherwise noted, evening/weekend parking is prohibited in all University lots and garages where access is controlled by a parking attendant, a barrier gate or an overhead garage door.

  • Chancellor 32 at 32nd & Chancellor Sts. (enter from 32nd and Chestnut Sts.)
  • Hollenback under South Street Bridge (enter from the River Fields lot) where meter parking starts at 2:30 pm
  • Law at the N.E. corner of 34th and Chestnut Sts.
  • Ludlow 34 on the south side of Ludlow St. between 33rd and 34th Sts.
  • Palestra (enter from 32nd and Chestnut Sts.)
  • Penn Children's Center, 3160 Chestnut St., where meter parking starts at 7pm
  • River Fields off University Avenue, where meter parking starts at 2:30 pm
  • Sansom 38 at the S.W. corner of 38th and Sansom St.

During special events (e.g. sporting events, graduation) lots may be operated as cash lots.

These permits are issued for either daily or commuter access. Different rates apply.

Student Parking Permits

These permits are issued on an annual basis valid from September 1 through August 31, or on an academic year basis valid from September 1 through May 31. Students may apply for any of the permits listed above and may also apply for 24-Hr parking permits issued for around-the-clock parking, including holidays. Specific parameters will apply to student parking permits and can be found on campusexpress.upenn.edu.
