Fairmount, also referred to as the Art Museum area, is situated slightly northwest of the hustle and bustle of Center City. Tourists flock to this neighborhood to view the world-renowned collections at the Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia Museum of Art and Rodin Museum, in addition to other cultural institutions in the area. Anchored by the regal presence of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Benjamin Franklin Parkway creates an accessible conduit to Fairmount. Young families and professionals are drawn to Fairmount because of its strong residential community, thriving food scene and nearness to Fairmount Park and other green space. Parking in Fairmount poses quite a challenge, but thankfully there are several bus lines, a subway stop and the Girard Avenue trolley that provide easy access to this rich historical area.
In the video below, Penn graduate student Katherine discusses her transition to big city life and how the personality of her neighborhood fits her lifestyle.
