Pilar Rivera, The McLean Contributionship Endowed Education Intern, coordinated and managed our 4th Outdoor Career Symposium, which was the biggest yet. Morris Arboretum hosted 80 students from four high schools: Saul Agricultural, Mercy Vocational, Lankenau and Carver Engineering and Science. Students in 10th-12th grades had pastries while taking part in roundtable discussions with professionals.

Then, in a round-robin fashion, groups of twenty students learned about tree climbing from Andrew Hawkes and Arborist Intern Josh Best, and Louise Clarke showed slides and discussed Sustainable Features at Bloomfield Farm. Curtis Helm from Philadelphia Parks & Rec presented soil sampling in the wetland area, and for the first time a session on “soft skills” such as resume writing and interviewing was included. Lunch was served to all participants.
