For visiting scholars, VIPs, and Penn affiliates, Sansom Place and Left Bank accommodations offer attractive, furnished, short-term and extended-stay accommodations at the heart of campus.

Sansom Place Guest Accommodations - Policies and Procedures

The following policies govern Sansom Place Guest Accommodations, located at Sansom Place East, 3600 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19104. Please read these items as well as the Occupancy Agreement carefully before applying.

Description

Conveniently located on the University of Pennsylvania campus, all options are centrally located in a seasonally air-conditioned, carpeted, high-rise graduate student residence hall. Included in all accommodation categories are:

  • All utilities
  • On-site complimentary laundry facilities
  • Television with complimentary cable
  • For all stays, a mailing address at Sansom Place East is provided.

Basic bed and bath linens will only be provided for guests staying in our Upgraded Apartments, though these guests will be responsible for the care and laundering of those linens during their stay.  Guests staying in all other room types (single rooms and apartments) will need to provide their own linens, though they will have the option of purchasing a pre-made linen pack for an additional cost of $97.00 plus tax.  If a linen pack is purchased, guests will be responsible for the care and laundering of those linens during their stay.

Single Rooms

Private bedroom featuring a twin, extra-long bed; sharing a bathroom with one other private bedroom. Amenities include microwave/microfridge.

Standard Apartments

One-bedroom apartment with two twin, extra-long beds, private bath, and living space with a kitchenette that includes a microwave.

Upgraded Apartments

One-bedroom apartment with one queen or two twin (depending on specific room), extra-long size beds, a private bathroom, and living space with a kitchenette. Dishes, kitchen utensils, and some small appliances are included.

Additional Services

Reception and Security: The front desk is staffed 24 hours a day to provide general information and emergency assistance. Security personnel monitor residence entrances on a 24-hour basis.

Laundry: Convenient on-site complimentary laundry facilities are available in the Sub-basement of the building.

Eligibility

Guest Accommodations are available for use by official visitors and guests affiliated with the University, and require a four (4) week minimum stay.  Visiting researchers, scholars, consultants, and new appointees meet this eligibility requirement. In order to stay in the guest accommodations you are required to have a Penn Sponsor. This sponsor is not required to pay for your stay, but may do so by providing a budget code. Your sponsor is required to email us a letter confirming your affiliation and dates of stay. This letter should be emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it in a PDF format . Please note that your application will not be reviewed until we have received your letter.

Clinical trial participants or long-term patients at any of the Penn Hospitals are not eligible to stay in the Sansom Place Guest Accommodations. HUP and CHOP recommended accommodations for patients can be found here.

Reservation Process

Availability and reservations are confirmed upon receipt of a completed web application (which implies understanding of these Polices and Procedures as well as the terms of the Occupancy Agreement), sponsorship letter, and deposit. Submission of an application does not guarantee your placement into the Guest Accommodations. Reservations are deemed definite only upon your receipt of a confirmation email generated by Conference Services. A rental period can be extended based on availability. Although we try to meet guests' requests, specific room types cannot be guaranteed.

Terms of Residence & Occupancy Agreement

Guests in Sansom Place Guest Accommodations are subject to terms and conditions of these Policies and Procedures as well as the Occupancy Agreement.

All residents must follow the terms listed therein.  Occupancy is limited in the Single Rooms to one adult and in the Standard Apartments and Upgraded Apartments to two adults.  Due to the academic nature of Sansom Place, no children under the age of 18 or pets are permitted.

Persons with a disability and requiring a dog with them to live independently are the only exception. Smoking of any kind is not permitted inside its residences or within 20 feet of their doors or windows.  Guest Accommodations are available for a minimum of 4 weeks.  You may check in anytime after 3:00pm on your scheduled arrival date as the front desk is opened 24 hours a day.  Check-out is scheduled for 10 a.m. on your departure date.

Deposits/Rent Schedule/Cancellation/Early Termination

The deposit, which must accompany the application, is two full months rent or the full payment for stays shorter than two months. This deposit holds the room and is eventually applied towards the first and last month's rent of the guest's stay.  Thereafter, rent is due on the 1st or 15th of every month for the following month(s). For occupancy of any part of a week, a full week's rent will be charged.

Single Room $250 per week/ $1000 per month

Standard Apartment $400 per week/$1600 per month

Upgraded Apartment $475 per week/$1900 per month

 

*any pre-existing bookings will be grandfathered in to 2016 rates

 

Acceptable forms of payment (USD) include: credit cards, University Journal Entry, International Postal Money Order, checks drawn from a U.S. bank, traveler's checks, and wire transfers.  Checks, money orders and traveler's checks are to be made payable to Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania and mailed to Hospitality Services, Attn: Katie Xhori, Stouffer Commons, 3702 Spruce St., Philadelphia, PA 19104-6027.

All applications must include a credit card number in the event of a cancellation. For more information on cancellation policies please see the Occupancy Agreement.

Please note:

  • All guests are required to have a PennCard to gain entrance to Sansom Place East. The cost for one PennCard is $35. The sponsoring department typically provides the necessary documentation and payment for the PennCard; should it not, Conference Services can provide the necessary documentation, but the guest will have to provide the payment.
  • There is an additional $35 bank-imposed fee for wire transfers.  Please contact Conference Services prior to initiating a wire transfer for instructions and the appropriate account number.
  • $35 will be applied to your account for checks written against insufficient funds.
  • Sponsoring departments will be held liable for payment after 2 months of non- payment from tenant.

Left Bank Guest Apartments - 3131 Walnut Street

The following policies govern Left Bank Guest Apartments, located at 3131 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104.  Please read these items as well as the Occupancy Agreement carefully before applying

Description

These dramatic upper-floor, luxuriously appointed loft apartments feature 12 ft. ceilings, Euro-style kitchens and expansive window walls that fill each apartment with natural light and showcase sweeping views of the city skyline on the Penn campus.
